Frequently Asked Questions

Glass Womb, Inc. continues to uphold our founding goals in creating and maintaining the bonding experience. An important aspect of bonding is being educated and informed in all decisions and choices throughout your pregnancy, including our services. The following FAQS serves as an informative guide. Please visit our location page for contact information if you have any other questions.

What is a 3D or 4D ultrasound?

Ultrasound is the use of sound waves to create an image of a structure inside the body. Sound waves are produced by a hand held transducer. A clear, water based gel is applied to the skin. To obtain images a technician moves the transducer across the skin of the target area. The sound waves pass through the skin and echo, or bounce, off the skin tissue inside the body. A computer analyzes the pattern of sound waves as they are projected back to the transducer, and based in that information, produces an image. 3D ultrasound technology advancement led to an added dimension of real-time imaging or fourth dimension(4D). Your baby’s three dimensional image is constantly updated allowing technicians to obtain pictures of fetal movement as it happens. This system also produces high quality images, providing exquisite details of fetal features and movement. The result: Live Action images of your unborn child.

Why do 3D/4D ultrasound images have a golden hue?

There are options of selecting different tints while reviewing images. It has been found that the golden hue is aesthetically pleasing to the eye and shows excellent shadows and highlights.

Are there any risks related to 3D/4D ultrasound?

No. The current available data in literature does not indicate any specific risks of physical damage arising from the use of ultrasound. There have been no reports of injuries caused by ultrasound exams in its 50 years of use. In using ultrasound at standard diagnostic levels, a 15 minute ultrasound requires only nine seconds of actual sound wave emission. The remaining time is spent “listening” or analyzing the pattern of echoes. Glass Womb, Inc. maintains its obligation to client education in so stating, despite the fact that no adverse effects in the responsible use and exposure to ultrasound have been reported, the FDA and American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) discourage the use of ultrasound scanning for any purpose other than medical diagnostic evaluation. When should I schedule my ultrasound session?

We accept appointments as early as 18 weeks. 18-24 weeks gender determination and the ability to see the entire baby are available. At 24-36 weeks the baby begins to gain weight and build fat. These fat deposits are what define the baby and the facial features. They are also necessary in obtaining the 3D ultrasound images with amazing detail. You may choose to come in more than once, with a limit of four sessions permitted, to view your baby at various stages of development and growth. To assist you in determining the optimal time for your ultrasound session please visit our Appointment Calendar page for scheduling.
